What is parent coaching?

Parent coaching is supporting parents in their job of taking care of their children. A coach is someone who can reassure parents that they are doing the right thing, give suggestions and ideas based on expert's research while understanding that all families and children are different and unique. A parent coach isn’t that much different from a sports coach. A professional athlete may know just about everything that there is to know about their sport, but they still benefit enormously from having a coach. A coach can give them a different perspective, offer encouragement, change routine as well as push them to the next level. A parent coach does just that, but in the realm of parenting and parent-child relationships.

The earliest years are the most important years for shaping a child’s life; grab onto this opportunity!

Time in time out

Parents: Let’s make a plan. If you have ever been on the internet, then you have heard that giving a time out is a horrible thing.  It is not. You have heard that connecting with your child during a fit or a tantrum is a better thing.  That is correct. So let’s make a plan: […]

positive

A lot of families are turning to positive parenting these days because they want to leave the yelling, screaming and anger that can happen with parenting in the past. But what ends up sometimes happening with positive parenting is that the parents become permissive parents. Positive parenting is still strict parenting. It is loving parenting, […]

social media

Right now I’m reading an interesting book (with a boring title), Parenting Well in a Media Age by Gloria DeGaetano.  It is stirring up so many thoughts and ideas about raising children in our day and age. First of all, things are very different now than they were just 30 years ago.  We are part […]

Boulder Child Whisperer

Man oh man.  When was the last time you got a good foot rub?  Probably way too long ago.  Well, if you aren’t getting any good foot rubs, at least your little one should be. When my boys were babies, I really really wanted to take a massage for babies class.  I thought that it […]

lost

Perhaps some people will disagree with me since learning to live a more mindful life is to not lose your stuff all the time (which is partially true), but if you have young children, I don’t know how you can get through a day without either you or them losing their s*$t. So in my life, it […]

work

After years and years of parents not spending enough time with their children, we are seeing a backlash (only in certain cases) of parents not “working” in front of their children.   For many, many parents, this is not a problem as their children see them working all the time, but for some parents, they […]

mindful 1

If you are like me and have visited Pinterest for great parenting ideas, you have probably had the same impression I did, that children should be busy or entertained with activities pretty much all the time. Now, don’t get me wrong.  I love to have fun activities with my kids but I also think it […]

sibling rivalry

If you are expecting another child or you already have multiple children, then you have two wishes for them: to be good friends and to not fight all the time. Good luck.   However, there are several things you can do to facilitate a great relationship between them and fewer headaches for you.  The most […]

Brotherly love 1

Sometimes in life, we are just feeling a bit off.  Often we know why- a bad day at work, car broke down, didn’t sleep well the night before; and sometimes we have no idea why we aren’t feeling that great.  Sometimes it is just a “wrong-side-of-the-bed type of day.” This happens for kids and for […]
